Frederick Sexton was an
Connecticut impressionist painter who was associated with the Old Lyme
art colony. He studied at Yale and was a pupil of J. H. Weir and
A. V. Tack. He exhibited extensively, including entries at the
National Academy of Design, the Salmagundi Club, and the Conn. Academy
of Fine Arts. The work is presented in a new hand-carved and
hand-gilded frame.

EVERETT LLOYD BRYANT
(American, 1864-1945)

Everett Lloyd Bryant was studied in Paris and London and later at the
PAFA under Thomas Anschutz and William M. Chase. Bryant and his
artist wife Maude Drein Bryant moved to Baltimore in 1909 and spent many
years working along the East coast before moving to Los Angeles in 1930.
Bryan was well known for his still lifes and won a silver medal for his
floral paintings at the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition. He is
represented in many public collections, including those of the Los
Angeles Co. Art Museum, the PAFA, and the Minneapolis Art Institute.

FRITZ HOFFMAN
(American, 1930-2008)

Fritz Hoffman studied
at Ohio State, CCAD, and with with John
Pike, the prominent Woodstock, NY artist.
Fritz was a founding member and past
president of the Columbus Watercolor Society and also a board member of the Ohio
Watercolor Society. He exhibited in both Societies annual shows and in
national exhibitions in which he won many major awards. Although he was a
Columbus, Ohio painter he worked extensively in Maine and excelled at harbor
scenes and views of the Maine coast. His body of work spans a 50 year
period and his paintings are found in collections throughout the East and
Midwest.

WALTER WHITCOMB THOMPSON

Walter Thompson studied in Florida and Boston
and was a pupil of J. J. Enneking and William T. Robinson. He
worked in New York but later moved to South
Carolina, where he became a prominent member of the arts community.
Thompson was the director and co-founder of the Beaufort, S.C. Art Colony
and also the director of
the Beaufort Art School. He exhibited extensively, including
entries at the North Shore Art Assoc. and also in many venues in South
Carolina and Georgia.

ALFRED E. R. VAN DE VELDE
(Belgian-American, 1892-?)

Signed and dated 1940 lower right
Alfred Van de Velde studied at
the Royal Academy in Brugges and the Institute of Art in Antwerp. He
moved to Carlsbad, California in the early 20th century and worked
there for the rest of his career. He exhibited extensively both in the
U.S. and Belgium and is represented in the Musee Oostend in Belgium.
This is an excellent Arts & Crafts era painting by the artist and is
presented in a hand-carved fame.

Virginia Schleuter studied at the St. Louis School of
Art and was a member of the St. Louis Art League. She worked in a
loose, impressionist style as seen in this work, done c. 1925. The
scene depicted is probably that of the Missouri River.
